UFK's modern processing plant at Doha commenced operations during the first quarter of 2004 with a variety of products that are expected to cater to the needs of both domestic and international consumers. The Company is committed to achieving and maintaining the highest product quality and production standards.

In 2004, UKF initiated steps to obtain the ISO certification. UKF is now ISO 9001:2000 certified. Also, in response to the European Community's certification requirements on exports to the EU, the Company has obtained the HACCP certification as well.

Fishing operations in the new season (2004-2005) began in July in International waters with five vessels initially, and gradually increasing to the entire fleet of 20 vessels. Fishing in local waters commenced on August 1, 2004. The shrimp catch declined by 8% to 633 tons compared to 691 tons in 2003.

The fish catch improved, going up to 359 tons versus 321 tons in 2003, an increase of 12% .The performance of fishing operation in 2004 was not satisfactory, and the Company is currently examining ways to restructure the fishing operation in order to improve profitability.
